November 2021 News

I’m writing this as the temperature drops and the wind is picking up, The good old fashioned summertime is well and truly gone for the year now hasn’t it!

So it goes without saying then, that on top of running with your bright colours now, make sure that you either have something warm to run in, or to put on afterwards. What I’m saying is look after yourself and those around you.

As the year wraps up it’s time to set your goals for 2022. Think about races or challenges and talk to your coaches if you want some advice on achieving them. With that in mind, perhaps my next bit of news can be the nudge you need… The return of the Road Runners Grand Prix!

We never really had the races in 2021 to set a Grand Prix, so I’m hoping 2022 will be a refreshing return to big Bexley turnouts at some of the more popular local races.

So what exactly is the ‘Grand Prix’?
It’s a handpicked selection of races covering a variety of distances, between January and October. You can enter the ones that appeal and scores will be awarded, and prizes will be given at our presentation night towards the end of the year.

We keep it as fair as possible by ranking and scoring runners according to coaching group – so everyone gets a chance to win! All we ask is that you take part in a minimum of 5 events (There are 13 to pick from).

Any Road Runner can enter as long as you’ve a valid membership and training pass and there is roughly 1 race per month to enter. Distances vary from a parkrun 5km to a marathon in order to challenge you and to make this cater to all Road Runners. You do need to compete in your club vest to earn points for each event.

A full description and the events picked are all now on the Grand Prix link HERE.

So take a look, book up a race, plan a parkrun or get chatting within your groups and arrange some car-sharing to events.

It’s been pretty quiet on the race front this month, just 4 events. Nevertheless, there was an award winning performing to mention coming from Eileen Noble – eldest runner at the Deal Castle 5 miler. Well done to you all, results can be found HERE.

The last club event for us will be the December Time Trial. This will again be held at the clubhouse/track and you’re more than welcome to dress festive (but no time advantage will be given for most elaborate outfit). There will be mince pies and hot chocolate for you at the finish!

For the Christmas and New Year period, the Club will be closed allowing everyone to take a well needed break. If you want to arrange your own runs, please do so within your groups. Remember to look out for one another at this time of year and sometimes getting out for a run is a welcome break.

The last Club session will be Thursday 23rd  December and our return will be on Tuesday 4th January.

A quick note to those of you that haven’t been about much, due to injury, work or other commitments:- we don’t want anyone feeling left out or isolated so keep your group/coach up-to-date with your plans and progress, and we hope you’re back soon.

Just a couple more things, and both are me asking for your help and/or input…

  • I would like us to have a few events throughout the year to bring everyone together – so perhaps a quiz night, a meal or BBQ type things. This does however, need a few people to step forward and offer a little of your time to help us. More hands make light work, so a small Social Committee would be a great addition for us. If that’s something you’re interested in, please drop me an email to discuss.
  • The return of the Myra Garrett 10k (and fun run):- I am looking at a July date to host this again (TBC), and want to make it a sustainable event within Danson Park. If you have some ideas or suggestions, or even a grip on event management and wish to join a small committee, then please let me know as I’d love to get some fresh ideas on it.

With so much to look forward too, it’s going to be an exciting 2022 and I can’t wait for it to begin! But let’s not wish away the remaining 5 weeks – keep up your running and supporting each other.
