Bexley AC’s Michael Fagbenle took his first National Championship title on Sunday 24th February when, in a tight race against some of the fastest 400 metre runners in the UK, he won the England Athletics U20 Indoor championship in Sheffield in a time of 49.25 seconds.

In a gruelling race where he was boxed along the back straight and struggled to find a way through, a space suddenly opened up in the home straight and with 20 metres to go he surged past to take the title.  This race followed similarly hard fought heat and semi-final races, all of which he ran in under 50 seconds.

Michael will now go on to represent England against Wales on Saturday 2nd March, earning him his first (of many I feel sure) international vest.
