Niki Faulkner and Jalen Pople star for Bexley in Kent Cross Country Championships

Cold day at Brands Hatch for the 2019 Kent Cross Country Championships. It was an early start for the U13 girls. Chi Chi Rae Garland ran strongly to finish 12th, next home was Laurel Broughton in 46th; she was followed by Heather Beet in 51st and Maya Broughton in 54th. They were 7th in the team event. We only had one runner in the U13 boys Rashid Singhai, he finished strongly to come 59th. Rashid’s sister Tisha was our first finisher in the U15 girls she came 30th and Kacie Mai Smith was 46th. Jalen Pople had a great run finishing 5th in the U15 boys and Ewan Beet came 67th. Jack and Ted Higgins had solid runs in the U17 boys finishing 10th and 11th. Mitchell Horne was 16th in the U20 men’s race.

In the Senior men’s race Nikki Faulkner ran an excellent race and finished 7th in a high quality field, he was only a few seconds behind last year’s Kent Champion and South of England winner. Tom Wright was not too far behind in the early stages of the race but had a difficult last lap and finished 31st. Joe O’Hara was next in 40th. A good run from Paul Collier who finished 88th, then Jon Fish, Martin Jenner and Mark Collier who all had good steady runs finishing 104th, 124th and 150th. Chris Gosden was 192nd and Kevin Winch 195th. Bexley were the 7th team in the 6 to score match.

The last race of the day was the Senior women. Victoria Croucher started well and was in 6th place on the first lap, she finished 11th which was a very credible performance. Beata Kubala Todd had a steady run in 76th then Geraldine Legon and Sarah Dodds were 105th and 107th. They finished 12th team in the 3 to score team event.

So a few good performances and some may get selected for Kent teams later in the year.

Next cross country race is the Kent Schools on Sat 19th Jan in Dover. This is followed the week after by the South of England Championships on Jan 26th at Parliament Hill where we will be arranging a coach for transport.
