We meet Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6.30pm at the Myra Garrett Pavilion which is located on the opposite side of the running track to the main sports centre at Erith.
Roadrunners are usually split into 3 groups depending on their fitness and ability and each group has at least one qualified coach to introduce a training session, ensure suitability and accompany the group.
The training sessions are published on a monthly basis by posting up on the notice board at the clubhouse and emailing to the groups in advance.
The session starts at 7pm and is usually out on the local streets, parks and roads and consist of basic runs ( 4 to 7 miles) technical sessions (fartlec, hills, reverse split, intervals ete) there are also track sessions.
All sessions can take anything up to an hour and there are always times available when you can discuss training, diet, injury and other concerns with the coaches.
We hold application forms for a whole host of various road and trail runs of varying distances which usually take place on a Sunday. These include 5, 10 15 and 20 mile runs, marathon and half marathon distances, 5 and 10k races and cross country.
You will be informed of races that are of particular interest to club members and the Road Running Secretary (RRS) coordinates a car sharing system to get u to the event.
Although members apply and pay for participating in an event membership almost always allows for a discount to that run.
We also offer club sponsored races where teams are entered i.e. Beckenham Relay, Swanley Relay and sometimes we have friendly events with other running clubs. All these can be especially rewarding.
We have two competitions that run through the season. The Grand Prix is a selection of distances at different locations ranging from 5 to 26 miles ( usually 10 races) and you score points on what position you finish ( there are age related additions to make it competitive across the age range)
The 10k Challenge is a selection of 10k races at different times and locations along the season and are usually other club organised races (we put on a 10k race at Danson Park in May every year)
There is also the Club Championships held at the club track in Erith which involves all athletic races and disciplines.
3 Mile time trial
This is held every last Tuesday of the month on a training night and is an accurately measured and timed distance and is an excellent indication of your progress.
Coaches and Committees
As mentioned earlier the club has wealth of fully trained and experienced athletics and running coaches to offer advice and training and ensure your safety ete. Our coaches are fully accredited including CRB, and we also have committees that regularly meet to ensure the smooth running of BAC and evaluate and streamline new procedures, plans and proposals.
As a serious club BAC are affiliated to England Athletics
We occasionally arrange to participate in a race or event in other countries or further afield in the UK. These can be marathons or mudfests and we have an exchange arrangement with a club in Germany.
Presentation Night and Other Social Functions
Our presentation night is usually in October and as the name suggests is when all our members who have achieved pick up their medal, shield or cup.
We also have a barbeque in the summer and arrange social nights out to the theatre ete.
